Have QMHS offered places or given rankings at this stage?

Post by thetford »

Many parents have written how their children have been 'offered places' at QM whereas my daughter's letter simply gave her ranking. do the letters differ because of the ranking or because of the geographical position of the child?

It looks as though there are 2 different letters-the first to children within the PAN of the school so within the first 112 for QMHS. It is not technically an 'offer' as this will take place in March but children in this position can be very confident about a place as long as they apply for the school on the CAF. The second letter is for children outside the PAN which gives a ranking and details of previous admissions rankings-although these were based on the previous admission number of 96.

No children have offered places anywhere at this stage - that comes in march and only of the school is named on the CAF .

However some schools eg LRGS & poss QM have sent letters to the top ranking indicating that they would be offered a place in march if they put the school first on the CAF.

Nice work on behalf of the schools who are understandably trying to attract the best performing kids but you can see that some kids will end up with a handful of these "offers" and can only take one.

Thanks Herm ,I was about to post a similar post. The giving out of separate letters is just marketing strategy by the schools in order to attract the top performers .A child can only accept one place and quite a number of these children will be in the top performing in all the exams throughout the region .
As noted in another thread the rank of the last person to enter Aston was 414 .This to me indicates one of two things or probably three. One being that Grammar Schools are so good that even a school where it's first 300 ranks were not filled still remains one of the top in the country .Two, that children tested at 10-11 is not a very accurate indication of that child's ability .Third, children with very supportive parents will do well.

Please keep supporting your little ones and don't lose faith as they did the best they could have done on the day .
