how many boys camp hill will take in 2013?

Post by dh2002 »

First time for this forum but would appreciate for your information.

Looked at CHB website, last year was 93 but did not mention anything this year. Assuming it will be the same ? Or maybe increased? My DC only sits on the boardline so it is trying to gauge his chance for CHB. Decision time this week. Thanks.

The school has not expanded at all, I am afraid, and the admission number is still 93.

CHB will always over-offer as some children will turn down the place in favour of KES, so often around 123 places will actually be offered.

So if a child is, for example, 1st on the waiting list, it actually usually means that about 31 children have to actually turn down CHB for them to gain a place. That is why there isn't much movement, usually, on the CHB waiting list.

If you don't mind me asking, what score did your ds get? I have had parents of children getting 242 (a pretty safe score!) still assuming the boy is very borderline.

I was told the last boy to gain entry into CHB last year was ranked 145.

Do you mean 145th in the whole exam? Or 145th of those who placed CHB as their choice on the CAF?

There will always be quite a few boys who score high enough to make a CHB place but who will put another Grammar school as first choice, usually because it is closer to them, or perhaps they have a sibling there.

145th of the boys who placed CHB somewhere on the CAF. A total of 1219 boys expressed interest in CHB with 710 as their first preference.

DS got 235, so thought on the borderline. Felt it was a guess game if he will get a place.

OK - Thanks MSD :)

Yes, 235 is unfortunately a guess game - but it is certainly still worth putting it first choice if it is your first choice!
Hope all goes well :D

having looked a bit, found there are a number of DS having similar scores. Any ideas on what are the priority rules?

If a number of children each have the 'last score in' then priority is given on distance to the school.

many thanks, UM. guess we all have to wait until 1st March then. Seems so long and maybe disappointing in the end.
