Article in the Telegraph about tutor-proofing tests

Mods - this is of general interest but also mentions a few specific 11+ areas, with the main focus on Kent. Is it worth posting a link in the others? (Kent, Bucks, Warwickshire).

well that makes interesting reading. I fully agree about the private school coaching their own year 6 to pass the entrance exam to their secondary school. One private school in the Wirral put on saturday lesson for their year 6 pupils cos the selective secondary also belongs to them. So it would be the obvious choice for their pupils to flow through to senior school.

I think there was a thread about this in the Kent section at the weekend, Marylou.

Thanks, Scary - I don't usually have much call to visit Kent but might just pop down there with this and say hello - I hear it's very nice this time of year! :D

Edited to add - Gloucestershire too, of course! Will put the link to the article in the Bucks thread on this subject as well.

Not quite sure why they're mentioning Warwickshire in the same breath as Kent as the system is totally different - already supposedly tutor proof (no past/practice papers) and no maximum scores and a far smaller proportion of grammar places.

There is another article in todays Times
'An 11plus to beat the home tutors'.

Again Kent seems to be in focus and some misinformation about selection criteria. Most Kent grammars have proximity rules. Only 3 are super-selectives, out of 34 grammars.

Is tutor proof test a real possibility? I doubt it as whatever the test, ways to coach for doing it better would be found. It may be difficult but not impossible. Even if test subjects or test setters (CEM/GL etc) are changed every year, all it would need is to prepare for all four subjects/paper types. Only a recipe for increasing stress on parents and children.

I saw the article in the Times too. It says that any decision will be closely watched by Bucks etc - err, yes, Bucks are already changing theirs. Do your research, journalists!
