Characterisation of NFER Maths Questions

Post by SunlampVexesEel »

Is the math sylabus written down anywhere?

e.g. In a form similar to the A-Z of VR questions?

I looks like The Tutors CD 1 does it:

Hi SLVE

We reviewed the NFER Maths practice papers and were able to create 18 categories of questions from the 200 questions available for The Tutors Maths CD1. Within the 18 categories there are sub-categories e.g. Bar Charts, Pie Charts, Pictograms, etc all come under the one main category.

With The Tutors Mathematics CD2 we took the four NFER papers and wrote five new questions for each question. This reflects the question types and the distribution of questions across the papers.

Unlike Verbal Reasonng where the question types are quite distinct and we can predict overlaps across papers, we could not do this with the Mathematics papers because the question range is so broad.

Both The Tutors Mathematics CD1 and CD2 have free Demos and the questions are unique, also both CDs contain Bonus material to help develop mental arithmatic skills.

Is the main difference between the cd's the fact that one practices in groups of the same kind and the other mixes all types together into seperate tests? So cd 2is more like the actual test and cd1 is good for practicing certain types at a time?

Hi Bexley 2

That is basically correct.

We tried to replicate the format of the Verbal Reasoning CDs by providing one CD that was question type based (Mathematics CD1) and one CD that was question paper based (Mathematics CD2).

The questions are unique to the CDs and the CD Demos.
