Need help with Synonyms question
Please choose one word from each bracket which are closest in meaning:
(recent latter former)
(yesterday today tomorrow)
The answer is: Recent and Yesterday
Can anybody explain why it is not former and yesterday?

Re: Need help with Synonyms question
"Recent" has more implication of proximity to the current moment in time than "former" does. Recent means "not long ago" whereas "former" means "some time in the past".

Hi rochika
All the questions you are asking about come from GL Assessment Pack 2. They were prepared a little hurriedly for commercial reasons, and they are not as good as Pack 1. Don't put too much store by them. Paper 7 is pretty well OK, and Paper 8 isn't bad, although it has 4 Type Z questions on it, which is not typical. (Paper 5 had 4 of those as well.)
