Does anyone use Mathletics?
My dds' school is about to sign up to Mathletics, an online Maths programme in an attempt to improve the school's Maths.
I must admit I am a bit sceptical about some of these online resources. My view is that they are ok used in moderation, but can't compare to good teaching.
Has anyone used it and what is it like?

we use it at school, the children love it. I've not seen it used yet, but the ICt co-ordinator ( who is also a bit of a maths whizz when it comes to teaching thinks it is fantastic as she gets feedback from how the children are doing. It is used in conjunction with teaching not as a substitute though.

I'm not a fan - there are other resources that are free.

There are some excellent online games, try woodlands junior, bbc and sheppard software for starters.
I use a lot of games in my teaching, just google eg fraction games online.. and you will find a huge selection.

My DS's school uses Mathletics. I'm think its a great tool. Yes there are lots of free online tools, but I'm not sure if they cover the whole to the curriculum, are set by year group, nor explain concepts if you don't know (or have forgotten) them. For example, you are answering questions on equilavent fractions but are finding it difficult - there is a question mark button that you can click on and you can look at easy, medium or difficult scencerios, which visually go through how to answer that type of question. There are separate concept and dictionary buttons to look up terms.
They can also go on live mathletics and play against other children anywhere in the world. There are different levels of difficulty, and they have to answer as many questions as they can in 60 seconds.
The children can earn points and get bronze, silver or gold certificates, which they seem to like getting. They also get credits, which they can use to personalise their own online character.
I agree that this is not a substitute for teaching, during school time, they are only allowed to go on Mathletics as part of ICT time - when they have finished their other work or during lunch time homework club. They also get set tasks by their teachers as homework, but again, it's not the only source of maths homework.
