Quote? School / depriving children of liberty
Hi
Someone out there must know this one. There is a quote, something to the effect that school must be really useful to justify depriving children of their liberty for so many years of their life. Can anyone tell me exactly what the quote was and who said it? Or even get me a bit closer? I've tried googling, but I can't track it down.
Thanks!

Try tracing back in Magwich2's posts as I'm pretty sure she's quoted it... She definitely took it literally when it came to her DD's school attendance!

That doesn't ring any bells. There's a Mark Twain one "I have never let my schooling interfere with my education." but that doesn't sound like what you're looking for.

Funny that, I'm thinking of using another of his phrases in the title for my latest essay. 'The tyranny of majority' Love it. Just trying to make it fit!

I've googled using all this information, but I still can't find it! I've even scanned through 'On Liberty'. Does anyone know where to pinpoint it? Are we sure it is Mill?

It sounds like the sort of thing he would say. It was moved who first mentioned it on here so maybe she remembers?
I quite like this one, which I came across just now:
