11+ practise papers

Post by chez »

Hi,

My child had a practise paper at school yesterday and they marked them today.
She got only 4 wrong three of which she said were silly mistakes and she wasn't being carefeul enough. So she did really well and said she found it very easy.

The teacher told her that the test they had was an old real 11+ test and someone got into grammar school on the basis of this test.
The teacher said that the real test will be of a similar level.

Please can you advise me if this is the case or are the real 11+ exams going to be harder?

Thanks

Dear Chez

There are three practice tests, A,1 and 2.

Test A MUST be administered first and is EASIER than the real test. Tests 1 and 2 are of the same difficulty as the real test.

The teacher is WRONG [or perhaps your child misunderstood] these Practice tests are NOT old real tests. For starters test A is easier so how can it be an old real test?

School practice papers

Are any of these papers the same as the NFER pack?

Are there real 'old papers ' in circulation?

Are the same questions recycled over a period of years or are they updated to include modern vocabulary?

Dear Jayne

There should be NO real papers in circulation. There are strict controls.

I believe they are recycled. Updated on Vocab? That is a 64 million dollar question.

The NFER pack found in the shops only contain 15 types of questions. The Bucks exam include 21.

The additional types can be identified by IPS types HIKNOS

Do Papers A,1 and 2 contain all the types of question?

My son got 8 wrong in Paper A and only just completed it in time.If this is much easier than the others should I be really concerned?!!

Dear Jayne

Remember this is his first test under true test conditions, nerves will pay a part. Although A is easier there are a few oddball questions.

All question types will be covered over Test 1 and 2.

Don't worry [easier said than done] Just keep up the practice [ gently]

Hi Jayne,

My son's lowest score was on paper A, and his friend's as well. I thought it was the hardest until I read this forum. I don't know why..
