anorexia in Habs?

Post by Paulatim »

Dear all,
a woman I know said to me that Habs has a lot of girls with eating disorders...
Could someone with daughters at Habs let me know if it is just a rumor or there is some truth in it?
My daughter is starting there in September.
Thank you for your help!

friends dd is in Habs. Met them recently together with the dd's friends (all from Habs). All seemed happy and well fed.
I don't know why people pay attention to this scaremongering.Kids are under pressure in all schools and Habs is not outstanding in this regard.

Having worked in adolescent mental health for years - show me a school without a high proportion of young people with eating disorders, drug use, self harm etc......

In my experience there is a greater proportion on all-girls schools and an even greater proportion in the Private sector.

I don't think Habs is any worse than similar schools.

You'll be much happier if you ignore people who say 'everyone in that school is anorexic' or 'that school is such a hothouse' or 'that school has a huge drug problem'. It's always a friend of a friend who told them and it's always untrue. Every school wil have one or two who have eating disorders, feel overwhelmed or have a habit but that's true in any school in every sector.

My daughter is in the Lower 6th. She says she's never known any anorexics and certainly when I've been in school the girls are a range of shapes and sizes, but I've not noticed a particularly large number of unhealthily thin girls.

There is always great enthusiasm for charity cake sales and lots of junk food on St. Kate's Day and in Action Week.

My niece became anorexic a couple of years ago. She goes to a mixed state school in rural Wales. It can happen to anyone.
