Starting Bexley Grammar 2013

Post by crashtestdummy »

Hi, my son is very excited to be starting at Bexley Grammar in September. Does anyone have any good advice or tips for him so he can make the most of his time there? It seems to be a very friendly, caring school.

Hi! My daughter is starting at BGS in September too - not long now! (sorry to crash your topic but just wanted to share in the BGS excitement!)

I have been so impressed with the school so far and, as you say, it seems really friendly and caring which is so important. DD is worried about making friends as she's the only one from her school going but I know she'll settle in fine with time...does your DS have any friends from his current school going?

Have you bought all the uniform and extras? Caseys were brilliant when I went - so helpful :)

Hi, just bought the uniform and all the extras - think I will be eating baked beans for dinner for a while as my wallet took quite a hit.
My DS has two friends who are going there but doesn't know many people who are. Travelling from Sidcup. Seems really excited about starting and really looking forward to it. He likes the idea of the breakfast club!
Your daughter will make lots of new friends v quickly I am sure. Good luck!

Thanks :) Just spotted the news about their record exam results on the website - they've managed that despite the nationwide drop in results this year, which is comforting - and whilst ensuring their students continue to do the most challenging subjects (triple science, 2 languages etc). So that was good to hear!

DD will be travelling from Shooters Hill - we're moving in on Friday 30th, so it will be something of a struggle to get settled in time for her to start! I think DD will be making use of the breakfast club too.

Good luck to you and DS :D

How has DS settled in? DD is absolutely loving it! She loves the teachers, all the lessons and seems to be coping with the homework now she's settled into a routine (and stopped trying to do everything on the day she got it). She went swimming with one of her new friends the weekend after they started, and has been going to friends' houses after school left right and centre! She's also been getting the bus to school on her own, which I think made her feel very grown up at first, but now the novelty's worn off, she's realised that standing around in the cold isn't as fun as it seemed :/

Hope your DS has had a smooth start, too :)
