2014 Entry Secondary school

Post by Fat pigeon »

Hi guys just looking at back up secondary schools & catchment areas etc.

Page 56 of the booklet " Transfer to Secondary school " appears to show that Beal school takes about 100 out of catchment pupils last entry year ( September 2013 entry). However, Valentines & Seven Kings do not take any ooc dcs.

This is Important as this year there are more pupils than ever. I think this is slightly unfair as it limits choice, when some take ooc whilst others don't. I suppose in the real world allocation of limited resources, especially physical land & buildings means that adjustments will take years.

The fact that there are burgeoning primary school numbers has been widely known for years. Lbr do have fantastic schools, but why have they not prepared for the future, & if they have, why are they not being transparent, open & accountable to us who fund their positions? They are public servants not dictatorial cliques.

So would it be right in saying we could apply to Beal school as out of catchment.
We don't reside in Redbridge but are only 5 miles away 15 min drive.

The school is expanding so this could be an opportunity if Ilford & Latymer was unsuccessful.

Moving may be option to consider but house prices in the area high and above what we can afford.

For 2012 entry Beal High School:

On time out of catchment applications were offered to 0.825 miles

Not sure how it was for 2013 entry.

I think if you look closely at the OOC placements for Beal, most of those are for special needs, and a few are 'looked after' children. Beal has a specialised autism unit, It is the only main-stream secondary school with this facility in Redbridge, so I think a lot of places get filled this way.
It is still worth pursuing though.
Does anyone know anything about Isaac Newton Academy?

We went to the Open day for Beal & were impressed :D e.g.

The passion of the head teachers & their inter-school pan-Redbridge networking.
The strong academic results, especially the mathematics & the engaging likeable yr7 lead teacher.
D.D. running about pro-actively exploring, especially the library, stocked with "quality" books.
The environment e.g. relatively verdant school layout.
A brand new block which September 2014 Entry will be the first to use.
The multi-media teaching class.
The science class demonstrations.
The outlook of the overwhelming majority of show pupils e.g. drama, guides, science, multi-media, (though one disinterested & apathetic English class girl let the the side down  ).

Once again, relatively speaking, we are very lucky in Redbridge  .
