Reading Test Today - Feedback

Post by aayess »

Hi All,

New to the forum. DS sat the Reading test today, thinks he did well overall but not too happy with English. He said there were some tough words he hadn't come across before.

What feedback did others get?

According to the headmaster they were expecting approx 700 boys.

All the best to those that attempted today.

Hi and welcome,

I guess some tough words are to be expected so they can spread the scores.

For anyone adding to the discussion no details that might help late sitters, please.

Just heard from some friends, their DS also struggled with the same section in English. Their (very well prepped) DS also found the maths hard.

If only I could hibernate for the next 22 days!

My son got in - it was before they gave out the marks, so I don't know any more than that. He told me so many things he got wrong on the English, I think I decided at the time that he couldn't have got more than 80% for it. I was sure that must have scuppered his chances, but I was told here not to be so sure :-)

3 weeks will hopefully fly by.

Luckily its the average of the 3 papers. So if the other two are stronger that will bring up the average.

Historically the English has always been the hardest paper for the boys, so please don't worry!! :D

English papers are usually the ones that are hardest to do well on it. The range of options open to the examining body writing the paper are huge so it is difficult to prepare unless you know exactly what the scope will be. If he found it hard then so will all those who have been educated in the local schools and taught more or less the same topics. DG

2012 test results:

Test Mean Questions %age
Reasoning 29.30 40 73.25%
English 30.32 49 61.88%
Maths 28.03 50 56.06%

... seems to dispel the anecdotal "facility in English is lower than Maths ... "
