Difficulty with a Type Z example

Post by Bad Dad »

Duncan is twice as old as Sebastian will be next year. Isabella is 8. Sebastian is three years older than Isabella was last year.
How many years old is Duncan?

Good Son put 22. I think it is 22, but IPS answer book says 14.

D = 2((8-1+3)+1)
D = 2 * 11

Please put me out of my misery and tell me the book is wrong or I am mathematically challenged!

I agree that you are correct. We completed the IPS papers (VR,NVR,Maths) recently and found quite a few errors. Which paper was the example from? I wondered what my son had given as the answer and had a quick look through the papers but could not find it.

It is in the IPS VR Method and Technique book. It is question 38 from Practice Paper B.
