Can someone help me in reading the results

Post by sg07 »

Just received the results....not sure she made it or not :o
Her total standardised score is 221..she is ranked 130 out of 561 girls in southern grammar circle..does that mean she would be on waiting list as PAN for Stratford grammar is 112.She is ranked 283 out of 1097 children in Southern grammar circle.
Can someone help me if she qualified or not?
thanks

I think you have a very good chance as probably not all of the girls ranked above her want SGS, some will want AGS as first choice.

If we assume that half of the AGS intake could be girls there are potentially 172 girls grammar places available. And some always choose to go down the independent route, or perhaps take up places at the Birmingham schools.

Last year the first preference figures for the Warwickshire grammars were:
Ashlawn selective 86
Rugby High 209
Lawrence Sheriff 219

Stratford 201
Alcester 203
King Edward Vi 185

So if you assumed that the Alcester first preferences were split 50:50 between boys and girls that would means that for every 2 girls who put Stratford first, 1 put Alcester first. So your rank of 130 is more like 87 for Stratford alone. You should be comfortably inside the 112.

Also see here and you'll see that last year offers were made for Stratford down to 167th in the South Girls ranking.

Hi Does anyone know what the average score was for 11+ last year?
They are saying average (mean) total standardised score is 200 for this year.

Would I be correct in thinking that the average (mean) for last year was 300?

The average last year would have been 300, equivalent to 200 this year. It's always 100 per component (that's what standardisation does - adjusts to a mean of 100).

Hi Okanagan,
I have one more question..the letter says that 9 more children got the same score ..does that mean 9 more children got the score of 221...not the ranking (130) or I'm wrong in reading that??
