397 Total but no pass - Appeal Advice - Kent

Post by TonbridgeDad »

After getting my daughters results on Wednesday, which was "High School" we had to wait until Friday to get her raw scores to really see what happened.

VR 141
NVR 141
Maths 115

Total 397

In my view she did really well but alas it’s not good enough to pass.
We really want to appeal but this is all new to us, we would appreciate any advice on how to move forwards.

Thanks,

TonbridgeDad

Welcome!

I'm sure some of our Kent members will be able to advise.

You can't appeal until after 3rd March, so you have time to prepare.

Meanwhile do read our Q&As, especially sections B and C.

Thanks, I kind of understood that we can’t appeal until March but we wanted to make sure we understood what to put on our secondary school application form.
Our daughter really wants to go to Weald should we list this 1st?
If we are unsuccessful in appeal we would like her to go to Hillview and we don’t want to mess this up.

Put Weald first if it was the school you really want (and would have put first if your DD had qualified). She doesn't qualify, so Weald will reject her application when the LA passes it on to them, but you can appeal this decision. This has no bearing on the outcome of your application to whichever schools you rank after Weald. If your next preference is Hillview, put it second, If you meet its admissions criteria, this should be the school you are offered; however, it is always a good idea to fill your CAF preferences, including at least one school which you would be certain to be offered (if possible).

(The advice is usually "your catchment school", but in our case this is not much use due to the shape of the catchment area, but I digress :) ).

Hi Tonbridgedad

Definitely appeal with scores like that.

Do you know if it went to HT appeal and, if so, the reason it was turned down?

As you know you can't appeal until March so between now and then you need to gather lots of evidence as to your dd's maths ability and prove that it was just a small blip on the day. So frustrating when she was soo close and probably only needed to get one more question right!

Do you have good CAT results, what levels is she currently working at?

Have you looked at ****** also?

Please excuse me for not responding to this before, I've had password problems which I've finally sorted out.

Tomorrow is our big day in front of the board in Tunbridge Wells at 9am.

I wanted to thank you all for your help.
Although I've not been able to log in I've read lots of your posts and comments, which have all been very helpful.

My wife and I believe we have put a good case together from information gathered from friends and on this forum. Our DD's school have really been supportive as well.

For those of you about to go before the board, I wish you all good luck.

I will let you know how we get on,

Best

Thanks Stocky.

I think it went well, the board were really nice as was the school representative.
There's not much else we can do now but wait.
It's going to be a long week.

I believe they will be sending the letters this Friday.
Hopefully it will be positive.
