Can anyone clarify how many GCSEs a pupil is allowed to take? Seem to remember the guide telling me the max is 9 but I may be mistaken. Can you take more, if you have the capability?

Majority will sit 10 but those who are more able will sit more.

With the changes in GCSE I think many schools will review the number they take.

Guest55. Could you explain in layman's terms the changes? I know something to do with IB?

there is due to be a national statement issued next week i think. Read today that they are going to change the grading to numbers so from 1-8 with 1 being the worst and 8 the best, so who knows in a few years time they will decide that there are too many getting an 8 so they will add an 9 and then a 10

When I did O levels most people took 8 or 9. Most students now take at least 10.

Linear exams will probably mean the current number of subects will be too many now all the exams are in Year 11.

Changes in content will also mean more to teach so again fewer subjects ...
