Having read through some posts for other counties (yes, I know I'm sad!) I was interested to see that it is normal for some grammars to ask for monthly/yearly financial contributions from parents towards improving/maintaining facilities at the school. Can anyone tell me whether this is the practice here in Essex? If so, which schools and how much is the norm?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Nice to know something's free at SHSG. ( I guess all the grammars are the same though). Don't get me wrong. I think its a fantastic school but my daughter even had to pay or one exam retake, which most comps allow for free Never had any freebees at all. I think they save it all for trophies (most of which seem to go to the same people. Last year the same girl won the school prize for modern languages and the school prize for sciences and at least one other prize, I seem to remember.
Good luck to her I say but be warned now all you new grammar school parents.... the grammars far nowhere near as rewarding as the comps and you have to be top of the top to win anything. Challenging but not encouraging I think someone said before. Guarantee you though, when it comes down to the big prizes, like those above, the recipient is likely to be a real pain!
