Entrance Tests
The entrance tests will consist of two 50 minute papers, each of which assess verbal, numerical and non verbal ability. Applicants are expected to show competence in skills appropriate to Key Stage 2 English and Mathematics, and to be able to apply these skills creatively. These tests can only be taken once. There are no practice papers for sale in respect of these tests. A familiarisation sheet of questions will be available on our website. They will be tests for which no additional preparation is necessary.

Is this CEM?

The entrance tests will take place on Saturday 13th September 2014.

There will be other schools that will be using the same tests as Reading School. If your son takes our test after this date and is found to have taken the same test, then we will use the raw scores from the first test he took, even if it was at another school.

. In order to be considered as living in the designated area, your address on 20th June 2014 will be the address that is used.

For those preparing for September 2014 a change of tack may be in order.

Does this suggest schools sharing identical cem tests? Why don't they just call it a consortium then?
How will they police this..cross checking registers? The test data will be leaked for sure if it is identical sat on different days, or do they just mean any other identical test sat on the same day, but pulling a sticky for Reading, sitting at the other school, then sitting late for Reading.

? possibly, if it's CEM through University of Durham, when you register at the various schools for the test, Durham will have all your details so will know you have already sat the exam? Does sound a bit woolly though - but, as we have said on other threads on here, this is going to be a problem more and more as people will whizz around the country sitting the CEM test before taking it for the area they really want....Certainly, I am fairly sure that the Reading test date is after Warwickshire and we are not a million miles away....

The website says that this is a consultation document. Is there a chance that it might not get implemented?

School admissions code says that a school or Lea have to consult if they want to change their admissions criteria. This must be a minimum of 8 weeks and end no later than 28th fen or 1st march (can't remember which). They then have to consider all responses to the consultation before publishing end April/beginning of May (again, can't remember exact date).
Not sure who is entitled to comment. I think anyone with an interest can.


As to whether they actually go with this or change their minds, depends on how much they want to go with what they are proposing and what sort of comments they get.

In all the years I've been watching Reading the draft changes have gone through.

The current proposals bring Reading inline with 'best practice' in other areas.

Kendrick usually put their proposals up on the last day of term.

Entrance Tests
Kendrick School will be using the same entrance test as Reading School and the Slough Consortium of Grammar Schools. The tests will take place on Saturday September 13th 2014 in all these schools. Potential applicants for Kendrick School will be expected to take the test at Kendrick School unless they also intend to apply to one or more of the Slough Consortium Grammar schools, in which case they may choose to take the test in Slough. In this event, raw marks from the test will be passed to Kendrick School for inclusion in its standardisation process.
Applicants for any of these schools may only take the test once. If it is found that an applicant has taken the test twice, the raw scores for the first attempt will be used for the standardisation process................

The address which will be used for consideration to be living within the designated area must be the applicant’s
permanent address at the time of registration. (ie by June 20th 2014.)
