Reading year 9 entry

Post by studymum »

Is anyone else's son sitting the exams on Friday? If so, have you done any prep?

DS2 is sitting. He just missed out at Year 7 so let him decide if he wanted to try again. He does but we haven't done any of the prep we did for 11+.

In all honesty I think the gap will have widened and he'll have less chance but there's nothing to lose by trying :)

Good luck and if you can some feedback would be useful. :)

DS2 didn't try for Y9 last year but the sixth form still remains an option and an easier transition as it only involves four AS subjects.

Hi Studymum and Steve

A work colleague's Ds is taking the RB 13+ next week. RBS told them there are 90+ boys going for the 8 or 9 places on offer so its popular as ever!

Definitely worth a go, good luck to your Ds SM

DS sat today and said it was hard but seemed in good spirits. I don't think he's expecting much so won't be disappointed!

Assume it's ok to give details - don't know if there are any late sitters but DS is awful at providing me with much info so not sure how helpful it will be to anyone!!

Have removed test information in case of late sitters

Exam content has changed for Jan 2015 exam Sept 2015 entry.
6.3 Test for prospective Year 9 students
The Entrance Test will be in two parts.
Part One: Verbal, Numerical and Non-Verbal.
Part Two: English Comprehension extension question.
The Verbal, Numerical and Non-Verbal questions are set by a nationally recognised assessment body. The English extension question will test literacy. All tests are appropriate to Key Stage 3.
The results of the Part One Verbal, Numerical and Non-Verbal questions will be combined, standardised, and placed in rank order.
On the basis of this rank order, the top 30 candidates, in order of rank, will then have their comprehension extension questions assessed. The results of the Verbal, Numerical and Non-Verbal tests, and the English extension questions will be combined. The combined rankings will be used to determine the rank order of candidates. These will be agreed by the Governors’ Admissions Committee and then forwarded to the Local Authority who will offer places by ranking and in accordance with parental preferences.
The entrance test will assess verbal, numerical and non verbal ability. Applicants are expected to show competence in skills appropriate to Key Stage 3 English and Mathematics, and to be able to apply these skills creatively. These tests can only be taken once. There are no practice papers for sale in respect of these tests. They will be tests for which no additional preparation is necessary.
The tests will be held on Friday 9th January 2015. The entrance tests will be taken at Reading School.
