Missieme thread - appeal
My dd did not pass the test by 6 points, dd said that three of the children kept making noises, one kept saying I cant do this another got really upset and the teacher had to talk to him, also my dd said that on the first test the teacher told her she was marking in the wrong box and had to start again then the next day on her maths paper the teacher made a comment and to top that when the teacher collected the papers she dropped them all on the floor, this has just come to light. My dd was told by her teachers she should have passed, the head said she took it to appeal but I have since found out she said this to a few other people but only took a three. The test was taken at our school and my dd said her class teaching assistant sat in with her with a teacher from another class, we have had issues with the teaching assistant in the past and have had to have talks with the head about her. So what to do, I feel that my dd should have passed she got in the 90s for her mocks i phoned kcc for the test results but did not get a reply even though they said they would phone back. The head teacher said to put down my choice of grammar on the caf form and she would go to see the head with me to see if we can get her in, can we do that?.... Some other things have come to light about the teaching assistant and and last years pass rate. Hope someone can help. Thanks

Re: Appeals
Hi Missieme
You are going to have to appeal against non-qualification, you need to read this : http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/appeal ... lification" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; this is the only way to get a place - the head can't do anything by going to the GS head - it doesn't work like that
The key to appeal is academic evidence, if there are extenuating circumstances then they can have an effect on the appeal outcome but only if there is strong academic evidence.
Re happenings during the test, did you report these at the time? Do you know if they were mentioned on the invigilator's report? Mentioning them quite late on can mean they may carry little weight at the appeal..

Re: Appeals
Thank you for your reply, the invigulator was a teacher from my dd school ( actually she is an ex teacher who came back to help with reading classes and we were told she is an invigulator) so she and a teaching assistant sat one class our own head teacher and a head teacher from another school sat in with another class , for some season they split the test takers into 2 classes, I don't know if they put the noise down on a report, also my dd said that the invigulator left the class for a short while.

Who to contact
Who do I need to contact when asking for an appeal ? my dd did not pass the test, I am new to this. I was told by a mum at school to phone KCC, another said I should phone the grammar that dd wanted to attend. When do I need to do this? Help!
Re: Who to contact
This is a good place to start, as Hermannmumster said you have to make a formal appeal.

Have a look at the appeals section of the forum too.

Hello Missieme
I have merged your 2 threads to keep all the details in one place and changed the name to make it easy to find.
How are you getting on with reading the FAQ?

Re: Missieme thread - appeal
Hi, you can't make an appeal until you have formally been offered another school. Then you can appeal for the school/s you want. Details will be sent with your school allocation letter. For most schools, you apply directly to them.
We successfully appealed last year as my son just missed out. Although the disturbance during the exam may be a factor, it is more important to prove that your child is deemed suitable for a GS academically. Ie. good class work, good work ethic etc, . If the school you want to appeal to has a specialism that suits your child, make sure you have evidence of this. Getting letters of support from your class or head teacher is a good place to start.
