Sutton Coldfield Grammer

Post by Kamzino »

Hi everyone, my daughter had a score of 215 and yet she did not get either her 1st choice of SGS or 2nd choice AGS. However the 4th choice, an offer had been made for SCG (Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for girls). Anyone else from the Balsall Common area or close by have children going to SCG?

Kamzino - it appears that there may be issues with applications via the Solihull LEA not getting offers for the Warwickshire schools despite having scores which it appears should have qualified. Yours is the third (or possibly the 2nd if you know "Lovingmumoftwogirls") case we've heard of where scores above 213 haven't got places, whereas we've heard of other offers for 213 to Alcester. Contact Warwickshire admissions tomorrow (or just check in here as the Warwickshire resident people will no doubt post the qualifying scores) to check what the qualifying score was. It may be that you should have been offered a place but an error in the data transfer between the two LEAs has caused a problem.

Read the postings by Sailor18 and Lovingmumoftwogirls and the responses to them. Sounds like you're in the same boat.

I would second that.
Just checking that you are definitely in priority area?

Have you called to find out where you are on the waiting list for Stratford Grammar and AGS?

Hopefully you will have some good news soon...

We called this morning and were told we are outside the priority area, got letter when we got home and it said we are in the south priority area, so called back to query and they said they will pass onto Admissions Officer and call us .........

Got call today from Solihull to say she has offer with AGS and they had made an error.

Great news, Kamzino - what a relief. Think Solihull need to take a closer look at the Warks priority areas before next years' offers are made! :)

Hi Kamzino
So pleased to hear your wonderful news. Good luck to your daughter. I am sure she's over the moon. Also a big thank you for another place at Sutton.

I am delighted to hear that another error has got sorted out and many congratulations to your daughter and you all!

get the feeling we should offer to help run the allocations next year!

(seriously though - might be worth a word with a local councillor or member of the education committee - there may be some people who completely miss out as they never realise that they could have gone elsewhere)

This is very true, if we had not gone onto this forum we would have been none the wiser and accepted the decision. Needs to be looked into.
