DGS Cut off score out of?

I have a very silly question!

I know the cut off for DGS was 416 this year. Can anyone tell me what the score was out off?

The maximum score possible in Kent is 423. So, if I understood your question correctly, it would be 416 out of 423.

I am still trying to understand these scores. My DS will be sitting the test in 2015. Honestly, I am quite lost.

So the score is a combination of VR, NVR and Maths?

I am aware that the Kent test will be changing this year.

yes it will change. This year it was the sum of the three subjects: VR 141, NVR 141 and Maths 141

Note that this is a standardised score - the top score of 141 does not equate to 100% correct.

A good way to see it is to think of the standardised score been an easier way of trying to rank children - which sadly is what the 11 plus is trying to achieve.
Rather than using their actual percentage score ( called a raw score ) they are converted in to standardised score that take into account the age of the child. The children can then be ranked.

A standardised score of above 120 in a paper roughly means the child is in the top 25% of the children and hence suitable for grammar school. A top score or ranking of the maximum which is 141 means the child is in the top 1% of all children and at that point there is no need to differentiate between the children.
