Tiffin Girls School admission 2014 results - Combined Mark

Post by rose1505 »

My dd got her result today but missed out on a place at Tiffin Girls School. Her combined Mark is 53.50 and the 150th place offered was 53.93. Could anyone please advise what her chances are on the waiting list.

Also does anyone know last years cut off combined mark.

How do we find out where our dd is on the waiting list? Will the school tell us if we call them?

Hi rose: I'd imagine she must be very near the top of the waiting list with that score. The initial cut-off was lower last year so it's hard to compare. You could ring or email the school but the admissions office will be very busy! Hopefully you'll get a letter from the school this week stating your position on the waiting list. Good luck. Peridot

Thanks Peridot. Very nervous times for us all.

Does anyone know how far the Combined Mark dropped last year from the initial cut-off 49.78?

Or did anyone get a place from the waiting list (and what was their combined score)?

TGS never gave the final mark after clearing last year, but it is believed to be about 1.2 below the initial mark.
It will of course vary a bit each year as the number of people with marks between yours and initial cut off wont be same.
Might have to wait 2-3 weeks for clarity on the waiting lists as not everyone replies in first couple of days accepting/rejecting places
Good luck

For those interested...

NVR/VR (80+80=160 Points; Actual was 116 min, 152 153 max): Scaled=(29*(raw-116)/37)+1
Maths (50 Points; Actual was 15 min, 49 50 max): Scaled=(19*(raw-15)/35)+1
Reading (30 Points; Actual was 4 min, 25 26 max): Scaled=(29*(raw-4)/22)+1
Writing (20 Points; Actual was 5 min, 15 16 max): Scaled=(19*(raw-5)/11)+1

Each raw point is worth the following... NVR/VR 0.78, Maths 0.54, Reading 1.32, Writing 1.73

So if the acceptance score does fall then you would expect it to fall at least 0.54

Remember waiting list cut-off scores can also go up if candidates with high scores but with TGS as a lower preference decide to change their mind and add their child to the wait list.

Expect no movement for the next two weeks since acceptances are not due yet.

Good Luck

That's great working, SVE. Very useful.
You seems to have cracked all the TGS codes. :D

I know it doesnt make too much difference, but I can confirm that the 2014 highest mark for writing was 16/20, because my DD received it. Not sure how that skews the table...

Hm... interesting... Could you PM me the raw and scaled scores to see where they fit. I managed to get my numbers to fit all the results I have seen so far...

There appears to be some issue at the upper boundary. If you test at the upper end, in all the above cases, you need 1 raw mark more than max to score the scaled maximum mark - if that makes sense!

happy hunting!
