Head teachers' manual

Post by Lillie »

Could someone please send a link to the guidance manual for head teachers for secondary transfer? I have seen this in the past but cannot find it by googling or searching the Bucks CC website.

I was wondering if the head teachers still have to submit their own views on each child's suitability for grammar school ahead of the actual tests (i.e the old 1:1, 2:1 system) or whether that guidance has also changed following the introduction of the new tests? Given that the tests are only a few days after the children return to school in September, I take it head teachers must have to submit their views by the end of Year 5?

Thank you.

Yes - the process is explained in the Q&As.

Incidentally, I note that our link to the manual in E13 isn't working.
I'll send you a copy.

No - the important thing is that the recommendations are in before the publication of results.

The deadline for heads to submit this information was 27th September 2013.

Hi

Please can I ask a question, if an OOC child does not achieve the 121 mark and goes to review the panel will not have a grade from the head teacher that was sent in before the results? Is this correct?

If a Bucks school child does not achieve the 121 mark and goes to review the panel will have a grade from the head teacher which was sent in prior to the results.

Therefore the system is not consistent, is this correct? If you have a Bucks school child and for whatever reason the head does not support you then you must be disadvantaged in a review as the panel have lots of information on what Bucks heads think but not the same comparative for other head teachers.

I'm wondering why this happens. As the exam is on the same day for all children now to make things consistent is this one area that is not consistent?

Yes - except where partner schools are concerned.

I can only speculate!
    • • There will never be complete consistency because some OoC schools refuse to have anything to do with the 11+.
      • However, the option does exist for an OoC school to become a partner school.
      • With regard to 11+ procedures, BCC can only control what happens in its own schools - and those OoC and independent schools which have signed up to a partnership agreement.
