Time frame- for moving.-after the initial result is declared

Hi ,

Grateful if anyone could please advice........
I am living near Heathrow airport and i am preparing my son for the QE - Barnet exam. if he clears the exam , i am happy to move in Barnet. As i understand ,after the paper, you get the result and it says , weather your son has cleared the paper or not , and if he has passed the paper , then also it says places are not guaranteed, as it will done through the council basis and you do not come to know about them till march. While allocating the places , distance from the school is also taken into account.

I would like to move but only if my son clears the paper of QE or if he clears the Reading school of Boys - paper i would like to move to reading.

Can someone please advice .. what is the time frame given for the shifting of the house and what is the procedure to apply that i am interested in moving near the school.

Exam this year was September, results were posted I think by November so if your son gets a high score (>240) then you are pretty certain of a place so could start the process of moving then. Otherwise, with a lower score, it would be wise to wait until national allocation day at the beginning of March...this will then give you six months to move, though plenty of boys apparently commute distances comparable to yours. Hope this helps...there are many threads on QEB and travelling arrangements so you might want to look at those!

If you are planning on going for Reading school, then check the admission requirements concerning catchcment and when you need to be in catchment, as I believe these have changed. Kendrick, the girls GS in Reading certainly has, and you need to be in catchment by mid June.

Just checked for you and you will need to be living in catchment for Reading by the 20th June BEFORE the test, to be counted as being in catchment.

For QEBoys it is the score and not the distance that is important. Legally the school needs to advise parents of their DC's result before the closing date for the common application form on 31 October 2014. So for QE boys you don't have to move to apply. No experience about Reading.

QE don't care where you live. They allocate places based on the highest rankings. Only when two boys are on exactly the same score is distance used to determined who gets the places. As those who got 224 are in the 40's on the waiting list this year and those who got 220 are in the 80's it would seem that there is around ten boys on every mark in this bulge area so this would be your only risk. You get one of the marks that lots of boys get and then lose out because of distance. Hopefully you do not have KS1 sibllings. Easy to move to Barnet or surrounds with a Y6 boy. Lots of spaces in Y6 have been freed up by boys moving to prep, but try and move with a KS1 sibling and you will face problems getting them a space somewhere. KS1 classes are still packed to the rafters. DG

I had the same concern -- as if 40 students are on the same score , then i can make the chance better by the distance , so what will be the time frame for that --

For example if the score is 222, and we are on the line margin , the distance factor... will it make us any better and should we move before allocation day or not ... please advice...
