Lots of vacancies

Post by Brum Mum »

Hey, just mooching around the AGS website as you do and I noticed that they have what seems to be a lot of vacancies - obviously Head teacher but also director of music, teacher of music, teacher of English and teacher of computing...is it just me or does this seem a lot?

Not necessarily. If teachers are going to move jobs, then in between school years is the most likely time to do it. So about now would be the peak time for the school to be advertising vacancies (for next academic year), giving time for currently employed teachers planning to switch jobs time to hand in their notice to their current schools by the deadline of 31st May.

They could just be recruiting additional staff - as the school grows year on year they will need to, and if its a popular subject they may just need more hands on deck :)

I think schools just have a high turnover of staff. One year at KES they had an extraordinary amount leave and that has been echoed in other years in my daughter's school and now in Alcester.

Thanks for the replies. DS is at a school with very low staff turnover, so seeing this many started alarm bells ringing.

As James Dean says, it could be additional staff. Alternatively, it is not unusual for staff to leave, when an established Head does. This may be because they feel it is the right time to retire/move on to a new challenge, or the new focus of the school/head is not right for them. Certainly KES had more staff leave around the time the old head retired. However, the replacements seem to be taking the school from strength to strength!

Thankyou JD you may be right as I now recall this teacher saying at the time we looked round that they were looking to expand the IT department. In other news we received our official letter from AGS today welcoming DS and setting out details of the induction evening and day. Great to see it in black and white and have our acceptance of his place confirmed. It's been a long road but very well worth it
