4 months to go!

Post by jabba7 »

Hi

A new month makes it feel like the test date is getting closer

Please can anyone let me know what you think is the best use of the next few months to prepare for Bucks CEM, I am especially interested to hear of any good books to use as there is so much out there it is hard to know what to focus on.

Many thanks for any offers of help :D

4 months - 16 weeks - doesn't it sound so scary?

Here is the list of books I am using.

CEM CGP books + CGP packs.
FPP - seem very hard, so taking it slowly.
Bond - 10 Min papers
Word Problems - 6
Nfer packs. We haven't touched them yet but will do them soon.

I am not timing my DS at the moment. I want the accuracy over speed now. I know CEM have crazy timings and we will start timing him from July.

Is that all? No. He goes to one and a half hours tuition, so he needs to complete their homework work as well. Luckily, they don't give more than 1 hour homework per week.

Hope this helps.

Gameon.

Hi Gameon

Thanks so much this is really helpful :D

I am using CGP and FPP and agree, the FPP do seem v hard especially the VR sections.

I've not bought any NFER, are these OK to use for Bucks? I thought maybe they were more the old Bucks style as remember using for my older DC.

Thanks for this, really appreciate it :D

Nfer VR packs are not relevant to bucks CEM, but math, English and NVR packs still be relevant. I do agree Nfer comprehensions sections are to long for CEM, but we don't have much materials available for CEM.

Hi All,

with 4 months left, what sort of score can be considered reasonable? For a 45 minutes test of 120 questions with 15 on comprehension, 45 on various verbal elements, 45 on maths and 15 on NVR, what score is good/OK/bad?

Thanks.

Most importantly no score is bad.

The rest completely depends on which books you are using. Most books give an idea in the parent pages at the front, fptp books have peer compare.

Confidence and building up speed seem to go hand in hand, ie, they are not worrying as they work. Lots of milk and biscuits still at this stage, with mum and dad hugs if they get frowny in between the chunks of 10-15 minute tests.

My ds never did very well on bond tests and a couple of mocks were even worse. Find the positives and just encourage them. Do not get hung up on individual scores. He told me it would be ok on the day because he knew when he had to concentrate and be careful. He was right. Good luck.

It is good that Bucks testing the 3 areas. So one will balance the other.
Where do you find 120 question paper? Are you combining few papers together?
