Changes in important dates for 2015 entry - East -v- South

Post by gideon »

Rugby High and Lawrence Sheriff have changed admissions rules, so a move has to be completed by 31st Dec 2014 for 2015 admission. This means families may have to disrupt primary school education and change schools midway through year 6.

The Southern Schools have retained the traditional rules of informing of a change of address by 2nd Feb 2015 and allowing a move by the first day of term, providing great flexibility.

Interestingly, WCC website mentions the LSS and RHS dates, but completely ignores the important 2nd Feb 2015 date, even in the 2015 timetables.

Is this the first step of the regions separating? I have a feeling the Southern area is going to join the Birmingham Consortium soon and leave the Eastern Area to its own tests.

It is highly unlikely that Warks LEA would have two sets of 11+ exams, such as Southern with Birmingham, and Eastern by itself. It is both implausible and far fetched.

It's not up to Warks LEA. All schools are their own admissions authority, so it is up to the schools. Currently schools buy 11+ services from Warks County Council. Schools could form their own consortium (as Bham) or join other areas (such as Walsall, W'ton and Shropshire). I sure sure you know Bham LEA has nothing to do with the 11+ testing.

One could say it is unlikely for schools to have different cut off dates for address changes, but yet again it is not up to the LEA, it is up to the schools, being their own admissions authority, they make their own rules and not the LEA. The LEA has limited power.

The scores for Eastern and Southern are so far apart and the overlap areas around Ryton-On-Dunsmore is not large, they are essentially different areas, with the Southern region closer to Bham.
