D-Day

Post by Yamin151 »

Spending my days as I do, sitting in front of the Jeremy Kyle show drinking cheap cider and eating bon-bons, I was lucky enough today to be able to have the BBC coverage of D-Day on (whilst I actually did a few jobs, yay!). Anyway, is anyone else watching? I have to say I have wiped so many tears away my cheeks are almost raw. Such moving accounts of bravery. To see elderly gents wiping away a tear is incredibly moving and the coverage has been excellent. Can I link to couple pics? Privacy might prevent seeing them but I'll try

Haven't seen any coverage but have just read a story on the. BBC site about a veteran who was banned from going by his care home.

He went anyway. :D

Didn't spot that one Tinkers! Good for him. The BBC News website has some excellent coverage with more very moving photographs. I find it hard to believe 70 years have passed and that the events of the Second World War are almost out of living memory. We went to Dunquerque last year (great day trip from Dover) and visited an equally moving small museum in the sand dunes of the beach where the little ships came to rescue the trapped soldiers in 1940.

My son came home yesterday all excited as Tiffin Boys' Choir (sadly he's not in it!) had gone to France on the invitation of the British Legion to sing at a commemorative Evensong last night at Bayeux Cathedral on the eve of D-Day. The school is very proud to be involved in the commemoration.

That's why we won!

Spent a lot of the day in tears. We have spent many holidays in Port-en-Bassin, Arromanches etc, in fact DS2 learned to walk on Omaha. If anybody gets the chance to visit the museum at Arromanches please do and the American war cemetery is breathtaking.

How dare they! I'm absolutely furious on his behalf. Even if he was on his last legs, which he clearly isn't, they have no right to stop him. He is of sound mind and obviously very capable.

Good on him. He fought dictators to give us freedom, then the care home tried to take his from him.

Anyway ........ I watched the coverage this afternoon (whilst knitting Tour de France mini jumpers to make bunting for my house :D ) and I too was in tears, that was after breaking into song to accompany We'll Meet Again in the car and crying my eyes out. The songs get me everytime

Yes, I was out and about so couldn't type loads, but thought he showed all the spirit he must have had 70 years ago. I love the chief of Brightons Police's tweet.
