Sunday Times Article - State and Independant Schools review
A colleague told me that KECHB has come top of all independent and state schools in the west midlands region according to an article in the Sunday Times.
How have the newspaper come to this conclusion? Has anyone seen the article?
KES came third with KECHG 7th.

Can see the online version of the article here: http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/new ... 436175.ece
Doesn't really say a great deal - bigs up the KE Consortium in general and has some quotes from KECHB headmaster Martin Garrod.
The ranking appears to be simply based on A Level & GCSE score - nothing else. That's a shame as surely there's more to a school than simple exam performance? The top of the table looks like this ....

Having been through the process more than once, completely agree that there's more to a school than exam performance. Doesn't mean it's the best for your child, but we've had this discussion so many times with so many threads, each time a new table comes out.solihulldad wrote:Can see the online version of the article here: http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/new ... 436175.ece

There's no indication of "value added", and given that some schools are considered to have an intake of "the best" while others have a mixture of "the best" and more average students, I would have thought the difference would be more marked and not as close as it is.
There are always so many ways of presenting results. If the results were in order of GCSE percentage then the order would have been different.
Also I don't subscribe to the Times but how old are these results? I ask as one column is supposed to be A level % but KES don't even do A levels.....

Well my comments were meant to actually be helpful for those trying to interpret the results above which, IMO shouldn't just be taken at face value.

Hear, hear!
These tables must be at least year out of date and without progress measures are totally meaningless. None of these tables tell you how your own child will perform 5 or 7 years ahead and indeed there will have been major exam changes by then.

I think the repeated posting of tables (even under different usernames ) may be a way of reaffirming someone's own choice .
Personally, the only affirmation I need is simply looking at my happy children, thank god, rather than some statistical analysis as statistics are always flawed, hence my earlier post.

Horses for courses I suppose; my children are also happy thanks to allah as well. They prefer to be pushed in studies as opposed to the alternatives on offer.
Good luck.
