King Edwards Five Ways - what's it like for girls...?

Hi all!

Am new to the forum and it looks like a great place. I was wondering if anyone had experience of their daughters going to Five Ways? I've heard that although it's a mixed school, girls are very much outnumbered by boys. Have heard mixed things about the school because of this.

It's my daughter's (and our) current favourite (she's in year 5) and she's keen on a mixed school but a little worried about making friends etc. with girls being in a minority.

If anyone has any experiences they could share, that would be great!

Of course, there's then the small task of the exam...

My niece went there and loved it.

She has both girl and boy friends. She didn't notice having less girls.

Judging by the awards given out on Junior Speech Day in July, you wouldn't have known girls were in the minority.

They have a distinct advantage in getting into school sports teams and resultant trips etc.

KEFW open evening Friday 19th September (tomorrow) for prospective students.

Ask the girl guides what's it like.

I know 2 girls that went to FW - one was at a all girls' prep school & the other at a mixed junior school. The latter loved FW & the former didn't enjoy her time there to be frank.
FW is a brilliant school - for boys - not convinced if it's brilliant for most girls.
Check the open evening out tomorrow.

Not sure that's fair. One girl loves it and another not so much. However, having been at an all girls junior school it is not that surprising that she might not like the mixed environment. Although more boys than girls there are around 400 girls there. Sky is right. Ask the girls tomorrow. At the end of the day all parents and children have to make a decision on single sex or mixed schooling. It's why we only really looked at one GS in Birmingham!! No prizes for guessing which one.

We're going to the open evening so will hopefully get more of a sense of it all tonight - and will definitely ask the girls what they think.
