I know for reading grammar school, the exam type is multiple choice. Do they still have to show their maths workings or not required.

Not required. They were given scrap paper to do any working out on.
Usually only required to show workings when in standard format.

phew!! Thank god!! My son likes to do most of his workings in his head. Too lazy to write down.
