2nd Practice Test

Post by Wallasey »

At the second practice test last Thursday, the head at Wirral Grammar for girls came in to talk to the parents, and said that the number of girls sitting the test this year at the school was over 130, as opposed to 101 last year. I wonder whether the numbers sitting it in the primary schools will also have risen by this percentage.

As someone who lives over 3 miles away this does not come as happy news. My daughter's school has 14 girls taking it this year (normally about 6!).

Any other feedback from Primary schools gladly welcome. It will give me something else to fret about. What else would I do!

HI NOTION POTION AND WALLASEY,
YES THIS IS WORRYING,COULD WE BE BOUNCING BACK TO THE DAYS OF OVER SUBSCRIPTION?GLAD I COVERED ALL BASES BY PUTTING A GRAMMAR SCHOOL AS FIRST AND SECOND CHOICE JUST IN CASE WE FELL FOUL OF THE DISTANCE FROM WIRRAL GRAMMAR RULE.
FELT REALLY WIERD DROPPING HER OFF THIS MORNING,GLAD WHEN ITS ALL OVER!! GOOD LUCK TO EVERY CHILD TAKING THIS EXAM TODAY AND NEXT WEEK. :D

I hope it isn't oversubscribed again. It feels awful preparing your child all this time and thinking that she might be working her little heart out for nothing.

oversubscription?

Don't forget the school have been actively encouraging out of area applications because of falling rolls so if you live on the Wirral you will be allocated ahead of these children. Tihs probably accounts for the increase. The extra kids at Wirral will be the out of area ones as they won't be taking it in their primary schools.

Except this year you have around 25 girls from Birkenhead High Junior School (Academy escapees)

Is that right then, that Wirral children get allocated places before ones from other authorities? It was (yet another!) worry for us, with living so far from the grammar schools.

WIRRAL GRAMMAR ALLOCATIONS

Post by STRESSED DAD »

HI NOTION POTION,HOPEFUL DEN,WALLASEY AND PRIMARY MUM.
READ PRIMARY MUMS LAST POST AND THOUGHT THATS NOT THE WAY I UNDERSTAND IT,SO I HAVE JUST CHECKED IT OUT WITH PUPIL SERVICES FOR WIRRAL.
BASICALY OF THOSE PUPILS WHO PASS THE 11+ AND REQUEST A CERTAIN GRAMMAR SCHOOL IN WIRRAL THE SPECIAL CATEGORIES ARE ALLOCATED FIRST I.E. LOOKED AFTER CHILDREN,MEDICAL NEEDS,SIBLINGS ETC.THEN EVERY BODY ELSE IS CONSIDERED ACCORDING TO HOW FAR AWAY FROM THE SCHOOL THEY LIVE.THIS INCLUDES OUT OF AREA CHILDREN AS WELL AS WIRRAL CHILDREN.ALL WIRRAL CHILDREN ARE MOST DEFINATELY NOT ALLOCATED BEFORE OUT OF AREA CHILDREN ARE CONSIDERED. :(
I HOPE THIS CLEARS UP ANY CONFUSION.
