bucks schools 11+ table of results?

Post by camden »

Goodmorning!
Does anyone know where I could look to see the stats on the number of kids who passed the 11+ at our son's school in Bucks?

I found a link to 04/04 stats on this site (see link below) if anyone else is interested...but would like to see an update!

www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/foi/bucks/FOIBUCKS.co.uk

Many thanks!

Thanks Ettienne,

That's very interesting!
What I was looking for was an indication as to the actual number of kids that passed, so that I could work out if my son's ranking at 16 is well amongst the passes or fails. My thinking was that if, say 24 kids passed then perhaps we would have been more justified in expecting a pass than if only say 4 did.....or is this warped logic?!

I've just had a chat with a friend who appealed last year (successfully) and I saw paperwork that showed the HT OoR as 1:1 for all 30 of the kids she thought might pass....seems unrealistic? My son has been given a ranking of 3:1.....wonder if perhaps she's gone the other way this year - any thoughts?

Many thanks,
Camden

Hello, Camden

I meant to say in my earlier offering "with acknowledgements to the original poster".

I think the information originally appeared in the Bucks section. If you post a request there, someone may recall the link from which the data was drawn. With regard to your own school, you will get details of the results when the appeal papers are sent to you.

I'm not sure about the specific headteacher you refer to, but it may be that your friend succeeded despite the head's support! :D

The LA has become alarmed at some of the over-optimistic orders of suitability, and has been pressurising headteachers to be as realistic as possible. Quote from the current Headteachers' Manual: "Panels have expressed concerns when faced with lists including high numbers of children who scored less than 110 ......" [page 18].

Hi Camden and Etienne

This was the original source of the information. I am not sure that it has ever been published on the Buck website directly.

Perhaps Guest55 or Dad40 might know?

P.S. Camden - I am also moving this thread to Bucks.

I'm just concerned Ettienne about the mixed signals!

Given my son's attitude to life the universe and everything, his thirst for knowledge etc. etc (and all those other "things" that you can't "take" to appeal!) the fact that in his practise papers he was doing so well was no surprise...his result in the real thing was.

As Sally-Anne said in an earlier reply, his academic case is a real "mixed bag"!

I knew about the predicted 5's in 2 subjects and the probable in the 3rd, the G&TR, the reading age of 16 etc........but having since learnt what it means, I am very concerned at the 3:1, and don't understand how he can be supported at appeal by a head who has him down as such.
I don't know what to do about it - particularly in the light of all 30 having been ranked 1:1 last year. If she'd done that this year we'd be a quantum leap away from where we are now! As you say HTs are being told to be "more realistic"....has she over compensated this year - at our expense?! Maybe I should ask her....but I don't know how she'd react!
Maybe I should hope I'm asked the question of why a 3:1 at appeal, and hope that it's "OK" for me to point out last years ranking and just say I find it odd too?! Qusetion, questions!!!

Hi Camden

You may notice that you are back on Appeals again - hope you're not feeling too jet-lagged by all the high-speed travel! :D

Etienne asked me to move you back, as you are both discussing your son's Appeal on this thread.

I think this information was only released under a FOI request - I've never seen it on the Bucks website.

I agree that the "3" is a problem, Camden, but equally it wouldn't help you to be a "1" on a long list where lots of 1s and 2s have not qualified (it would lack credibility and could even devalue positive remarks that the head may have made elsewhere).

I know you've had advice to grasp the nettle now and beard the lioness in her den (how's that for mixed metaphors? :D), but personally I'd wait until a week or two before the appeal, and then ask the head for a written update. The O. of S. was probably done at the beginning of November. Several months later it would not be unreasonable to ask whether your son might be reviewed and rated as more of a "2". (To allow as much time as possible, you could even write "Not available in January" on your appeal form!)
