A Level predicted on ALIS/GCSE pts scores and reality?
DS based on GCSE performance is predicted 3A*s and A in Physics! - Wow you might say but I didn't/dont as not based on current performance - maybe what it should be - potential etc
I am v disappointed and fears are coming through - Actual Grades based on current performance is 2As and B in Physics. Core maths A*
DS is working - shallow comes to mind; Guess 55 and KB and others with 6th form exp. - is this underachievement? Should i ask school? Should i be worried? Is it early days
don't know what to think
DS says it's all fine - Physics just based on bad recent test
thanks for advice

What year is he in? ALIS is not a great predictor as it uses average GCSE grades ...
Re: A Level predicted on ALIS/GCSE pts scores and reality?
Yr 12 - not sure if it's ALIS but equivalent whatever that is now -
just a disappointment as not getting what should be getting - friends are predicted As in English/Psychology and they are working at A but DS seems to be underachieving across board

What is ALIS?
could someone point me the right direction for the correlation of gcse's and A levels
I want to see the original data/research rather than hearsay!
sorry could research it myself but on a train to london.

It's very early to be worrying ... they can't get A* in Year 12 so As and Bs are fine at this stage.
It also depends on the subject. Have you had any reports or Parents evening ...

Many schools just used the basic which I've never found that good.

Wow! That is the first-time I have ever seen A A A*B written in conjunction with the words 'very dissapointed', give him a break, they are superb early in the course results, including the B and stop comparing him to others, how do you know his friend's assessment grades anyway? Predictions are only a calculated guess, not a line along which they should not deviate for fear of reprisal.

Thanks g55 as always your expertise is invaluable
I agree having looked at the original source I think their methodology is suspect .
it took me 30min to work it out on this stupid iPhone and I left my reading glasses at home.

Agree its too early to be looking at predicted grades.
Focus on marks for actual homework and tests and if any are lower than the teacher/ DC thinks they should be then look at why and specifically what needs to be done eg. concept explained again by teacher, more practice, more care, more revision for test....

Re: A Level predicted on ALIS/GCSE pts scores and reality?
thank you very much Guess55, KB and Southbucks - comments noted - no nothing at school yet but this grade report. - numbers no words
will contact the school - it's hard to keep an eye on test results as don't understand the subjects and DS doesn't want my help or nagging!
It's not the grades per se it's the lack of ambition and maturity and post test analysis of where gone wrong to learn from mistakes.
thank you anyway and keep undated.

DS was predicted French A2, A (got that one) then two grades higher than he achieved in all maths physics and chemistry.
Better to worry now than open the email in August and look like my DS did.
