15 Dec Help!

Post by Lastminute.com »

Hi

First time post - be gentle.

We found out a couple of weeks ago that we were moving to Bucks from abroad next Mar/Apr. We have a 12 year old (would be in year 7) currently at an international school who needs to take the 11+ for entry after Easter next year.

Bucks CC have allowed her to take the test on 15 Dec and we have just got hold of 3 x CGP books to work from. Given that we have less than 2 weeks to prep for the tests does anyone have any hints/tips?

Thanks

Not having a last minute panic at all......................

Welcome!

Have you read this?

http://www.buckscc.gov.uk/education/sch ... dmissions/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Presumably you've found the practice paper?

http://www.buckscc.gov.uk/education/sch ... fer-tests/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Given that your daughter will be joining Year 7 have you been told which schools have spaces?

Yes, scoured the Bucks website, which is generally pretty good, although a little sparse/unclear on in-year entry.

We don't have a home address yet but I believe both GS that we could be in catchment for (Borlase's and High Wycombe) are full - so straight to the appeals process, if all goes well on 15 Dec.

Could you move to another part of Bucks where there are places? if she doesn't qualify then Great Marlow (which is a good school) will also be full ...

Beaconsfield High School added an extra class this year, and I don't think the year group is full as a result of that.

Someone will toddle along soon to confirm or deny, I'm sure. :D

Don't have too much choice in exactly where we live.

There is full and there is full - in certain circumstances schools have to take extra pupils above what would normally be "full" unless they have very good reasons. Interested to hear any experience with this!

They will have good reasons - winning an over-subscription appeal is not easy and those two schools will have strong cases.

Presume RAF mednenham/daws hill in which case there is some priority, but not sure exactly how it would work on appeal, safety will take priority over everything so if there is not room and the school has not gone over pan before it's is unlikely an exception will be made, purely on safety issues. There may of course be people moving away, you would likely reach the top of most waiting lists.
Good luck with the test, there is a 12+ test after Christmas that would mean joining in year 8, not sure of the details, but for the sake of one term of schooling I would be tempted to wait for that but have a more relaxed time of it??'

Address evidence is handled differently for returning Crown Servants and Service personnel.
Service families
It is your responsibility to make sure we know you are a Service family.
Where Service families, or families of other Crown Servants, who often move within the UK and
from abroad, are posted to the area, we will allocate school places in advance of the family move, if you provide an official government letter declaring a relocation date and an intended address. A Unit postal address, or quartering area address, will be sufficient if there is not a new home address. Where Service families are returning to live in a property they already own, evidence of ownership will be needed.
The same thought occurred to me though ...

Does anyone know when the results from the 15 Dec test will be out?
