REally esy algebra question help please

Post by denis denis »

My son did Yoyo's picture where you colour in the picture according to what number they make (thanks for that), but how should we work this one out:

ac2 (supposed to be a small 2 as in squared)

Where a = 4 and c = 2

I thought it was:

4 x 2 = 8 and so 8 x 8 = 64

But unfortunately 64 isn't one of the options!

Any help appreciated so that my son thinks I am clever than him :D

You have to square c first then mulitply by a as it means a x c x c.

For the next time you have to help (tomorrow??), a x c all squared would be written (ac)2 - (small 2, but I need someone to tell me how to do the typing of squared.)

BIDMAS is supposed to help you remember the order to work stuff out.
Brackets, Indices (that's the squares etc), Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction.

so ac2 is just a x c x c
a2c would be a x a x c (I tried small font for this '2', but not sure if it's worked)
