TWGGS-do they offer any places if out of catchment

Post by NoBigDeal1 »

Hypothetical question. If you live OCC but have very difficult personal circumstances is there ever any places offered to people who pass the test in these situations?

looking back to 2013 the distance was about 1.8 miles - presumably it is something like that each time ?? it is always possible to appeal if too far away from a school on the basis that it is the right school for the child

OK that is helpful.Have a friend in East Sussex who believes it is right for her child. She is a single parent, father abandoned her & 3 children.he had a drink/drug problem.sh would like to move into catcment area. She works but is in Housing Association house & the only way she can move into TW is to swap with someone in a housing association house in TW.But because where she is is so rural bo-one wants to swap. Her daughter is gorgeous & very bright & is desparate to go to TWGGS.Obviously a lot of people can afforf tutor/move house/rent something else but this really is not an option for her.seems a shame the child is penalised for having an absent father with lots of problems. & a mum doing her best but simply cannot afford to move to TW

I think before she went down the quite hard oversub appeals process she needs to consider how she is going to get her DD to school, can be quite hard to go to an alternate school from a remote area

Hi

TWGGS do offer governors places outside of the catchment area to eligible girls living in specific areas in West Kent. It might be worth checking their admissions criteria to give you an idea.

Why opt for TWGGS? Clearly a great school, but has a catchment area that is hard to get around. Why not look at TOGS which is still still excellent, very close by and has an admissions code that isn't dependent on postcode. However DD will need to score highly (as she probably would for a governors place at TWGGS).
