Need to move near to Wallington County grammar school

Post by luvingdad »

Hi,
First of all , thanks to all the contributors to this forum. My son got offer from Wallington county grammar school.
I am an OOC person and we need to shift near to WCGS now. We have limited knowledge about nearby residential areas. Can you please suggest some near by residential area options from where travelling to school would be easy ? i heard South Croydon can be a good option ?

Thanks in advance.

Congrats Luvingdad on your DS' success. South Croydon is nearby but you could also consider Wallington itself of Carshalton/Sutton area - There are good links to WCGS from all these locations.

We live in South Croydon and it's actually quite a difficult journey to WCGS, unless you are going to drive. Driving is probably a 30-40 minute journey in morning traffic for us. You have to queue at a snail's pace into Croydon first - with all the other commuters - before coming out the other side! By public transport, it's a couple of buses and probably nearer an hour in rush hour.

I'd look in Wallington itself, Carshalton, Sutton - that sort of area is better served for access to WCGS ... and much nearer if you are going to drive.

There are 2 school buses - the 612 - which start from Selsdon at 7.30am and 7.32am then go via Sanderstead, Purley, Woodcote Green, Wallington, ending outside WCGS every morning at 8.14 and 8.16. Leaves WCGS at 3.20 and 3.22 and does the reverse route. Maybe one of these areas would be of interest?

Will be a bit tricky from Morden as it's not straightforward. There is the bus 127 from Mitcham which stops 5 minutes away from the school. So Mitcham may be the best option out of the two.

However, as others have said, consider Wallington, Carshalton or Sutton. Especially if you have younger children who'll be going through the same process and will have the other grammar schools as options with ease of access.

Train from Mitcham Junction one stop to Hackbridge then a 10/15 min walk through the park to school. Loads of boys walk through the park in the morning. Or the tram via Mitcham then a bus.
