criteria - 2016 entry to Hert schools
Can anyone tell me any of the Hertfordshire school where the selection is partially based on merit and not based on distance criteria.
What mostly I found is that they are partially selective schools but the merit test is also based on some distance/band criteria.

Best to use the proper terms. The words used are academic and music. Clement Danes has 21 music and 21 academic places which are non catchment. Parmiters has 3 non catchment academic places. Other Watford schools have inner and outer catchment areas. These are clearly expained in postcodes on their websites. DG

The West Herts consortium schools are partially selective which will mean some children will get in on academic results, some on distance, siblings, etc.
Each school has slightly different criteria such as some may have a music exam or a sports exam. You might even find the criteria order different in different schools (e.g. siblings before location).
You'll find the criteria on the individual schools website. The do all however take the same exam. There are other non-consortium schools around.
Bushey Meads School: 10% of places selected on ability in technology, the rest are banded. Mixed, 170 places in Year 7, Admissions Information
Parmiter’s School: 25% academic, 10% music (Mixed, 206 places in Year 7)
Queens’ School: 35% academic, 5% music, 5% sport (Mixed, 262 places in Year 7)
Rickmansworth School: 25% academic, 10% music (Mixed 185 places in Year 7)
St Clement Danes School: 10% academic, 10% music
Watford Grammar School for Boys: 25% academic, 10% music
Watford Grammar School for Girls: 25% academic, 10% music

Wow! Does Queens really have 262 places or is that a typo and should be 162? 262 would be a huge yearly intake. DG
Re: criteria - 2016 entry to Hert schools
No typo, Queens take in around 265 children per year.
Re: criteria - 2016 entry to Hert schools
Queens is huge, but they are split into 4 houses and spend most lessons within those house groups, 2 houses are each side of the road so even a geographical split. I think ( trying to remember from open day couple of years ago) that they are even setted for things like maths within each house. so there will be 4 top maths sets, 1 in each house etc

Re: criteria - 2016 entry to Hert schools
Yet it is 100% catchment, does it have a favourable impact on local house prices? DG
Re: criteria - 2016 entry to Hert schools
Huh? Queens select 45% of their intake - plus the sibling tranche.
Re: criteria - 2016 entry to Hert schools
Clement Danes will have an extra 30 children in year 7 from Sep 2016 which will increase intake to about 240 so there will be a few more spaces for academic/music criteria.

That is great news. Are they still keeping to 10% academic and 10% music no catchment? DG
