Which paper style is used???

Post by oberoijasleen »

Hello All,

I would like to understand which style papers are used for our selective schools???

I know the stage one SET is based on math and English multiple choice. But can anyone help me understand what style of paper is set eg. CEM or GL assessment ?????

Also can someone guide as to how to prepare for the second stage tests for Nonsuch , Wallington and Tiffins :(

Completely confused mom

Correct, but OP has previously posted about going to tutors.

I am new to this forum. My daughter just started year 5 and I want to prepare her for grammar schools. I have started her to do some self study from bond books and GL assessment. She will soon start her classes in xxxxxxxxx. Has anyone's kids gone to this place in Slough. If yes can I have some reviews please.

Thanks

You have sharper eyes than I, Gunga Din :) (with apologies to Mr K).

Thanks Tiffinboys

You are right I did start with home studies and then took shelter in this lavish tuition classes in slough. Dont want to name them.

Dragged DD for 8 months every week. Then stopped. Doing home studies again. Just want to know if I am doing right. If we are really prepared.

So wanted to understand what is the paper style CEM or GL or any other..

Also no clue how to prepare for stage 2.....

Help please

Thanks
Jas

I vaguely remembered, then found the post, as I had replied to OP about TGS catchment.

Coming back to the question, I believe that SET is more like GL, rather than CEM. But there could be different type of questions in English like cloze etc as well, which are not in GL papers.

For stage 2, you need to cover all of KS2 and a bit of even KS3. English needs good creative writing and comprehension skills. Maths need good word problem and logic skills.

All the best for the test preparation.

Are you now in KT4?

Thanks Tiffinboys :)

Yes we are now in KT4. Thank you for all the guidance provided so far. Really nervous about this whole thing.....

Will start with more GL and CEM style practise papers...

Any further guidance on how to prepare for stage 2..

Thanks

My DS took the Sutton GS tests last year for stage 1 the questions are more like GL then CEM but Thu
They were a bit of a hybrid. For stage 2 the schools make up the tests and do not follow a format as such
The English has to be very good specifically the creative writing.
