SECOND STAGE - Nonsuch and Wallington English Exam

Post by bambina »

Could anyone please give some tips and hints about the second stage English exams for Nonsuch and Wallington.

Does anybody know what they had to do last year for the English exam?

Thanks everyone.

My dd said last year Wallington was what she described as a series of mini comprehensions. No actual essay.
Nonsuch in contrast was only an essay, the title was playtime in the spring.
There was no comprehension at all. That was quite unexpected and some found writing for 50 mins really difficult.

Thank you Moon unit - that helps a great deal.

I am a little surprised there wasn't any comprehension test at Nonsuch. I suppose that means we cannot be sure what to expect!

The exam is 45 minutes long. The number of questions will vary from year to year, but I'd expect 7-10 questions.

LadyMuck - 7-10 Questions? that would be great but I thought standard questions are up to 30 questions?

There are 7-10 questions but most of these have subsections so each question may require up to 5 separate answers. it is imperative that the child gets the first part of the question correct because answers to the subquestions are dependent on this. There are similar examples in the Manchester Grammar papers and in
KS2 - Level 6 papers.
