Median

Post by Kit »

I know this must be so obvious to you all, but just wanted to double check.

What is the median of these numbers:

4, 6, 8, 10

I thought that you had to pick the middle number, but there isn't one. So if there isn't one, do you jsut pick helfway between the 2 middle numbers i. e. halfway between 6 and 8 givng 7?

If it was 4,6,8,9,10

Would the median be 8?

Yes the median is the half way point between the middle two numbers, if there is an even number of them. It can also be found by adding the two numbers and dividing by two, if it isn't straightforward to work out.

With an odd number of items, it is just the middle number.
