We live that way but I've ruled out WGS, and I think probably also Walsall on the grounds of distance. From my experience with my older child I think an hour's travel each way is our limit to fit with the rest of their life and our family's life. Do let me know if you work out a super fast route though!

PP - have you considered driving to WHGH? Afternoon will be easier and you will probably get to the school at 3:30 pm, if you left Harborne around 2:45. The problem really will be the morning journey as Birmingham New Road gets quite busy at that time. Could take anywhere close to an hour or even more.

Thinking about that, but not at that point yet. We are not going to give up a grammar on par with the best in the country for the comps on offer on the border of halesowen, sandwell and birmingham.

Plan A still has not completed, Plan B is not till Jan. I posted earlier and I spoke with parents think wolves people can take comfort that many with other options will take them up.

Shame you cant trade a place. In fact can you???

That side f the city really suffers from lack of trains - much much faster than buses / cars. But then WGHS not so close to city centre either is it. As with the person askig about Walsall - trains would be much quicker / punctual / reliable.

Just a point to bear in mind when considering the journey to WGHS by public transport, which you won't realise when looking at timetables etc, but only becomes apparent when your DC actually does the journey for real. There are several secondary schools in the area, all of which have similar closing times which means there is a large number of passengers waiting for the number 1 service heading into the City at that time.

Our DD, currently in Yr 8 at WGHS has often waited 30 minutes or more just to get on a bus (scheduled to run every 7 minutes) as 2 or 3 drive past full to capacity.

She has tried to get around this by either getting to the stop as quickly as possible after the bell, or by staying behind after school to do some homework for a while before then walking to the stop, in an attempt to beat the rush.

It doesn't happen everyday, but it is worth knowing when you are calculating journey times.

Too true, I think Kings in Tettenhall generates a lot of traffic on that route. Has your DD tried to walk to Compton Road and catch the no 10?

Kings generates more than just traffic believe me!

Yes, she has tried this option but unfortunately the first bus she could catch comes at 16:13 so there is not much difference (school finishes at 15:40).
It has become more of a problem since the independent company running the single-deckers (Handy Riders?) withdrew their service.
