We went to the boys one today, for my middle DS. I did this 2 years ago with my eldest and got a very different vibe this year. Lot more natural and laidback, in a positive way. The head emphasised pastoral care in his speech but didn't discuss results, GCSE and university destinations statistics weren't mentioned.

That is an interesting and refreshing focus.

Remarkable you saw such a change in just three years. DG

We went to the habs boys open day too yesterday. I was warned beforehand that the headmaster's speech would be off putting. However, I didn't find that at all. I thought his address was relaxed, with mention of extra curricular activities and pastoral care. Two current pupils also spoke about their experiences and a short video was played. I liked the school much more than I thought I would. The coach service would be a real bonus for us.

In addition to habs, we also went to the Highgate open day yesterday. That was very relaxed, with no formal tour as such. Wonderful facilities and the students that we spoke to were a great advertisement for the school.

The only other open day that we went to was QE boys. By comparison that was much more formal with organised tours, which I suppose they have to do due to the sheer volume of attendees. They all seem like impressive schools, with outstanding facilities and academic results. DS still says he prefers QE to all the other schools. Nervous about that result as we were probably not well prepared. Only discovered GL papers in the summer and were naive about the amount of preparation that needed to be done.
