dyslexia provisions for 11 plus exam

Hi everyone. My son is severe dyslexic but wants to do the 11 plus (bexley , kent and st olaves) as he is very very bright in Maths. However I know he can't read a whole test by himself. Can anyone with kids with severe dislexia let me know what provisions there are for them? Time allowence is not going to help my son. I am thinking more of a reader / scriber although the tests are multiple choice, what about the creative writing in kent??
Any information is much appreciated.

Hi, I am not aware of any such concessions and I have heard that it is very difficult to get extra time.
It is worth asking the question though from a disability discrimination point of view.
I would have thought that your best chance would be at appeal if necessary when individual circumstances are more likely to be taken into account.

My understanding is that you should be able to ask for the same consideration as has been agreed for your DS at his current school. I assume that this must be considerable, given his disability?

I work in the dyslexia field . Firstly, is your son statemented or does he have a EHC plan?

The statement or plan will have the extra support he is entitled to and the exam arrangements he needs for example extra time. You need to check with your school SENCO. If he does not have a statement/ EHC the school does not have to make any special arrangements. However they may choose to.

Talk to the SENCO sooner rather than later and whatever you agree try to get it in writing.

I knew 2 boys who had extra time for their dyslexia in the recent round of exams. They had to submit their specialist diagnosis reports (apologies - don't know the official term) to each exam authority by a certain deadline. Olaves were quite relaxed though and even though my friend missed the July deadline, they took it into account and gave him the extra 10 minutes for the SET.

I have no idea whether they offer more than extra time - you'd have to contact each authority for that. Just wanted to say that there are definite policies in place for this.

Just wondering...if your DS needs to be read to, then would he need a lot more than 10 minutes of extra time?

My school senco keeps saying statements finished and the new plan is just for those with a health problem, so he won't get one. I feel they are just trying to not spend their money on him. I already asked for educational psychologist to assess him, as I know privately can cost up to 600 pounds but they say he doesn't need it when I know he needs one. Would be worthy to go privately? Is an educational psychologist assessment what the council needs as a proof of his dyslexia and therefore some provisions can be taken into consideration? Right now i dont think 10 extra min will help him. Although he might change in the next year. Thanks.

I do not know all the ins and outs but my daughter had a Statement d SEN and is just now being transitioned to the new world of EHC but the first letter stands for Education. So clearly the assertion by your SENCO that an EHC is just for those with health problems is nonsense.
