Academic scores

Post by Chelseachick »

Jus found this on par tiers website , thought might be useful
IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO NOTE: Following an analysis of the results from all seven Consortium schools, the average score, after the change to the new Verbal Reasoning Test, is now roughly 25 marks lower. Therefore, in order to compare your child's score for entry in September 2016 with previous years, it is necessary to add 25 to the total academic score. -

Question 1: How can the average standardised score on the new test be 25 lower than the average standardised score on the old test? Shouldn't they both be approximately 100?

Question 2: Even if the mean score is 25 lower, the highest possible score will still be 139 or 140 (so zero lower). In the higher part of the range, the difference between the old scores and the new scores will be smaller. The candidates who will be offered an academic place at e.g. Parmiter's, SCD, WGGS, WBGS will be in the top 5%, so their scores in the VR will be closer to 139 than 100. Therefore wouldn't the difference between new and old scores in the top part of the curve be much less than 25?

The standardization is evidently pre-calculated using a standard sample of the general population, rather than the cohort who took the test.

Which is what is being concluded on the other thread about this for the DAO marks.

It should only be 16% that were marked last year from the thousand which would be 160 but it was 700 so it does not translate. DG

Excuse my ignorance please with understanding the 25% lower or higher.

Please can someone explain what it means
1. What should a child score in CEM English and Maths to apply to the likes of Parmiters and WGGS/WGBS , Clement Danes , Ricky.
2. How does one establish the likely cut off scores given the changes happening ?

Really grateful for your explanations.
Thank you and GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

Look at the messages at the top of this area and you will see all the cut off scores last year for all your schools. You can also see them on the website of each school.

When you get your total score for this year if you add another 25 marks on then it will show you which school you would be likely to get into when you compare your score with the last score to get in last year. DG
