Opinions on Hershel please.

Post by Newbie121 »

Hi everyone, have posted in the Bucks section about Burnham and Hershel and a lovely parent has helped on Burnham. Thought Berks might be the better place to ask, what do parents think of Hershel?
Thank you.

My daughter is in year9 in Herschel,
Very pleased academically , organised and their pastoral care
Is excellent, they do offer variety of after school clubs and some
Clubs like music and awareness abt medicine field which is junior medical society
Started recently .again it's kid makes the school so depends on how is ur kid and what he
Wants, most imp factor is commuting , more nearer is convenient.
Head teacher is superb and supportive .

Extremely brilliant school all around. but for parents of DC living in london boroughs of southall, hounslow, harrow , hillingdon , it is the only achool in slough consortium which is the farthest but still second choice after langley if their DC have got good score in the test.
I have few of my friends children who go to this school and they swear by the goodness that herschel has to offer and their kids are really loving every moment they spend at school.
For the parents of Dc from reading it is often the first choice after the reading schools as it is the first school near to reading commuting wise in slough consortium.

Wow, what amazing feedback. Thank you all for your input.

Just a thought, how do the kids commute there? It seems a long way off for the Reading kids and even London borough kids unless a parent takes them.

Hi, if u start a topic on this forum under heading "Commute from reading to herschel grammar or slough schools" , then u will get contact or help from prospective parents or the parents whose kids are already doing the commute.
For london boroughs there are plenty private operators doing door to door service for about 100pounds a month. On the langlwy grammar website there are contact details database of parents who want to do car share.

Referring HGS admissions policy

(ii) the next 70 pupils in rank order of performance in the tests;
any idea what was cut-off for these 70 pupils last year.

and
(iv) proximity to the school. Distance will be measured in a straight line from the front door of the child’s home address (including flats) to the main entrance gate of the school, using Slough’s Geographical Information System (GIS), with those closer to the school receiving the higher priority.

What was the farthest distance (miles) admissions were offered last year ?
