What is a PAN
Please can someone advise me?
Our son chose to have his results shared with Pate and Marling. He wasn't ranked by Pate in top 200 but Marling ranked him in top 150. We don't know his actual score. How do we find it out?
Marling said no chance of him getting into Pate so don't bother. However we had already submitted our choices to the LA with Pate first and Marling second.
Does he have any chance at all of a place at Pate? If unsuccessful will putting Pate first jeopardise his place at Marling?
Thank you.
Harry

Re: What is a PAN
PAN is planned admission number, so the number th school intend to admit.
You won't jeopardise your place at Marling by putting Pates first. If you don't get Pates, Marling automatically becomes your first choice.
I have no idea about ypur chances though as I'm not from your area so have no experience.

Re: What is a PAN
If you didn't get a rank for Pates then you are unlikely to get a place but as you have Marling down as well and are in their top 150 it is highly likely you will get a place there.
Re: What is a PAN
just to reassure you, if you are in the top 150 for Marling, it means that you are safe for a place.
They will take 150 students in for sept 2016 and you are in the top 150. They won't give you a rank for the top 150, you don't need one, you are already within their PAN (the group they will take in sept)
With the CAF form, you should always put the school you actually want to go to first. But in your case, you won't get Pates if you are not in their top 200. That is why they haven't given you a rank because they are very unlikely to allocate places to anyone outside the 200.
The CAF form works like this - if you are not eligible for your first school, then your second school becomes your first school. You are considered alongside the people who put that school first.
So don't worry, you will be considered for Marling as if it was your first choice, and you should get a place without any trouble.
