Chance to visit Tiffin Girls' School - Sunday 29 Nov, 11 - 3
If you would like to get a preview of the school ahead of the packed, annual open evening (next opportunity - Tuesday, July 5th, 2016), the TGS Christmas craft fair may be of interest. It's a family-friendly event with a mix of pupil-run and professionally run stalls. There will be things to do, lots to buy and plenty to eat and drink while you're there. It should be a fun day out and perhaps a chance to meet some of the TGS families and dispel some of the myths.
There is no need to sneak in or pretend you know someone further up in the school - everyone is welcome and you're supporting the school by attending.

Would school choir be playing as well?
Re: Chance to visit Tiffin Girls' School - Sunday 29 Nov, 11
Not either of the big choirs I think, but possibly a few of the small a cappella choir - they usually turn out to sing a few carols. It's a PTA rather than school-run event. It's a great way to get a feel for the place and to see a cross-section of the girls attending the school. The ones who live close enough to bother to turn up, that is!

Hope more of the student body and their parents would give support to their school.Peridot wrote: The ones who live close enough to bother to turn up, that is!

I've done a quick tally. So far, I have met at least one parent for 17 of the girls in DD's class alone. For a decent handful I've met both parents, some of them multiple times. Perhaps our class is unusual, but all of these meetings happened at school or class events. Those I have met have all been very friendly too, which makes a huge difference. We're not neighbours and I knew none of these families before DD joined TGS.
If I could give tips to next year's group (or to parents who haven't attended anything yet), it would be this:
Share your contact details at the beginning
Make the effort to go to events
Then, put a smile on your face and say hello to whoever is near you

Good heavens, one parent for 17 girls?! It's a miracle!Stroller wrote: So far, I have met at least one parent for 17 of the girls in DD's class alone.
Sorry
Good luck with it! Great idea.

Nature versus nurture. Conclusive proof in favour of good genes.Yamin151 wrote:Good heavens, one parent for 17 girls?! It's a miracle!Stroller wrote: So far, I have met at least one parent for 17 of the girls in DD's class alone.

DD's year 8 organises summer picnics and ice skating in December (next week at strawberry hill house) great way to meet parents

That's interesting, Stroller and hina, that in your daughters' years there is more of a feeling of camaraderie amongst parents. I think my daughter's year suffers from being the last one before the post code catchment came in, and there are families who are a very long way away from school. There are pockets of socialising but no feeling of getting together across the year group. I'm pleased that there are now more benefits than just improved travelling times for the girls!

Girls from opposite ends of the catchment area still live a very long way apart, but the parents who haven't attended so far often live comparatively closer to the school.
I understand that those with small children might find school evening events harder to attend, but I'm hoping they will make the effort tomorrow because the whole family and indeed friends (and future year's hopefuls and the plain curious!) are ALL welcome to attend, spend and support the school.
